Children and Families Research Centre

The Children and Families Research Centre is an interdisciplinary centre for research and outreach in the Faculty of Human Sciences, Macquarie University. It has been established to meet the need for information about how best to support children and their families in Australia. Families are the main influence on the development of children along with other people and settings such as teachers and schools. Australian data are needed about the development of children in the context of their families and other settings so that policy can be based on relevant and high quality research information.

The Children and Families Research Centre is unique in its focus on the developmental, social and educational factors affecting children and families in Australia.

Mission

To conduct high quality interdisciplinary research that contributes to knowledge about the learning and development of children and families with a commitment to applying research to policy recommendations and outreach activities in a variety of communities.

Priority research areas

Research will be conducted in four priority research areas:

  1. Diverse and changing families
  2. Children's learning in families and other settings
  3. Health and well-being of families
  4. Early childhood research and policy
