Introduction

I have spent all of my professional life involved in education and as a teacher educator I'm able to draw on that knowledge and experience in my work with preservice student teachers and qualified classroom practitioners. My current teaching responsibilities focus on the relationship of theory and practice in professional experience units for undergraduate and postgraduate students. In addition, I have a major responsibility to support staff in maintaining the quality of learning and teaching practices within the Institute of Early Childhood.

My research interests focus on the opportunities and challenges of educational change in schools and centres. I specialise in qualitative research approaches and I am particularly interested in the professional experiences of teachers. I have been fascinated to explore how narrative accounts of educators' thinking can be used to understand and provoke adult learning in early childhood settings. More recently I have been working with K-2 teachers to facilitate the use of practitioner inquiry to support staff in re-thinking their educational practices.

Theses supervised:

MEd: Early childhood teacher's responses with ideas from Reggio Emilia
MEd: Young gifted and talented children in preschool
MPhil: The engagement of early childhood teachers in educational change

Community Outreach

To support my current research into the value of practitioner inquiry, I am collaborating with IEC colleagues to facilitate workshops for research participants. These workshops take teachers through a sequence of classroom-based professional learning opportunities.
